Addison County Regional Planning Commission Spring Workshops

The Addison County Regional Planning Commission is hosting a series of workshops for local officials and interested citizens. There will be four workshops in late May and early June. The workshops are free and open to the public. You can register by emailing Brandy Saxton. All workshops will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Below is a schedule of the workshops and a brief description of each.

Wireless Telecommunications

Presenter: Chris Campbell, Telecommunications Planner, VT Dep’t of Public Service
Time & Place:
Thursday, May 23, 7 p.m., Ilsley Library, Middlebury
Chris Campbell will talk about and answer your questions on wireless telecommunications. He will discuss the different types of wireless, how they work and what their infrastructure requirements are. Chris will also discuss how communities can regulate the infrastructure needed for wireless telecommunications.

Planning with Nature

Presenter: Marc Lapin, Conservation Biologist
Time & Place:
Thursday, May 30, 7 p.m., Vergennes Opera House
Marc Lapin will introduce concepts of nature conservation and will discuss the role of biological conservation in the context of community planning and individual landowners' decisions and actions. He will talk about the basic principles for the conservation of native species and natural communities. These concepts can be considered and applied at any scale, from that of the individual parcel to whole regions. The program will also include discussion of how these ideas can best be applied within Vermont.

Development Review Boards

Presenter: Deborah Markowitz, VT Secretary of State
Time & Place:
Tuesday, June 11, 7 p.m., Ilsley Library, Middlebury
Secretary of State Markowitz will cover the differences between the planning commission/zoning board of adjustment system and the planning commission/development review board system. She will discuss the responsibilities of each board and talk about what is required to switch from the pc/zba to the pc/drb. There will be time for her to answer your questions.

Community Projects

Presenter: Steve Libby, Consultant & Project Manager w/ the VT Design Institute
Time & Place:
Thursday, June 13, 7 p.m., New Haven Town Hall
Steve Libby will give advice and techniques for getting a successful community project up and running. Steve will provide examples from successful projects in other communities and offer some suggestions on how to get organized and build support for projects. He will also briefly discuss some of the resources, such as grants and technical assistance, that are available for community projects.
