ACRPC Brownfields Program
***NEW GRANT AWARDED IN MAY 2007*** ACRPC was recently awarded a $200,000 EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant to address sites contaminated by non-petroleum hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. This grant award will expand ACRPC’s current brownfields work that focuses on sites contaminated by petroleum.
What are brownfields? Brownfields are properties that may be affected by hazardous waste material. Contamination may stem from current or past activities on or near the property. Redeveloping brownfields can reduce public and environmental health concerns, revitalize economic centers, improve housing and neighborhoods, and reduce sprawl. ACRPC’s Role The Brownfields Program is overseen by a steering committee that meets monthly. The committee works to bring candidate sites into the program, advises program outreach activities, and selects consultants to complete Environmental Site Assessments for properties participating in the program. The steering committee is also responsible for reviewing, choosing, and prioritizing applicant sites to receive grant funding. The Brownfields Program is being conducted under ACRPC’s current grant agreement with the EPA. ACRPC was awarded $200,000 in 2006 to pursue this program. A .pdf brochure describing the ACRPC program can be downloaded here. For additional information, please contact Amy Diller at ACRPC. Brownfields Committee Members: Staff: |
